2,000 Miles, 1 Flight, 1 Boat ride – Chaim & Tali Engagement

It brings me immense joy to capture the essence of a moment whether a portrait, engagement or wedding. This is one of the reasons why I love doing what I do and regard it as an honour.

Unbelievably, a hotel concierge called to request a photographer to capture a surprise engagement on the north end of the Island – with only TWO hours notice!  I hustled to the resort and had just enough time to prepare before the couple arrived.

Already this was completely different from anything I’d ever done before. Let’s just say is was a little unsettling to have no prior communication with necessary information.  I didn’t even know their names!

Once I arrived at the location, I had to scout out the best vantage point so I could stay hidden until the right time.  There’s nothing like a little intrigue to make you feel more like a ninja and less than a photographer, but in my business, focus is important (all puns intended) so I had to stay calm and cool.

Shortly, the couple’s boat slid into Port Ferdinand’s marina on the slowly setting rays of the sun and then they sauntered along the stony path to a secluded romantic location, simply decorated with a sign, wine and roses.

Watching their reactions with great interest, I emerged from behind a wall just as he started proposing.   It was important to capture the essence of the occasion.  It went off beautifully!  She wondered if he was playing a prank, but indeed he wasn’t. Of course, she said ‘yes’ as he placed a slender, delicate band on her finger and a gorgeous bangle on her wrist.

Only then was I able to introduce myself to Chaim and Tali and congratulate them on their engagement.

Together, we strolled around Port Ferdinand recording in photos magical memories as the sunset slowly melted into night.

What a fantastic way to end a day!

Congrats to Chaim and Tali; here’s to a wonderful life together!
